Department of Kaumarabhritya, VPSV Ayurveda college, Kottakkal in collaboration with its functional centers AyuCALM and CIMCD, were constantly engaged in various intellectual summits. Now the institutions in collaboration, up brings many effective programmes, directed by the Kerala Ayurveda Studies and Research Society (KASRS), Kerala Health Ministry and AYUSH ministry intends to potentially disseminates the authentic and unbiased practical utility of our science in current Ayurveda scenario.
AyuCALM is a functional subset of Kaumarabhritya department in effect since 2008. The project was initiated with the aim of endowing integrated management to the children with autism and learning disabilities. It provides training classes, help out support group formation and direct for life style guidelines to the parents of children with Autism and learning disabilities. Several camps are also been conducted integrating yoga, training sessions and games for children on its behalf. Several seminars, webinars, camps and workshops are conducted for the scientific group and general public. The project is been running successfully since 10 years spreading out its services in all course inside and outside the country.
CIMCD is a new initiative of Kaumarabhritya department of VPSV Ayurveda College Kottakkal in association with Kerala Ayurveda studies and research society (KASRS), is functioning progressively and successfully inside the campus. The institution is serving a lot of children with differential abilities and other childhood disorders. The centre provides Multidisciplinary Professional assessment and diagnostic services including early identification of the disorder and intervention for children below 6 years of age, comprehensive integrated therapy including speech and language therapy, behavioral therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, sensory integration therapy of all age group with special preference to pediatric population.
The centre also provides parental, caretakers and teachers training programs, nutritional and lifestyle management for its health seeks. The other areas of service are Special remedial programmes for school going children those who having learning problems and other disabling conditions, Special educational services with individual education methods, Special therapeutic intervention packages for out station clients those who are attending short durational services. The centre is giving best outcome with its therapy along with interventions in Ayurveda.
The study entitled “A pilot study to assess the efficacy of an integrated Ayurveda management for hyperactive children with scholastic backwardness” is a successful ongoing joint venture of Jeevaneeyam Ayurveda research centre and Kaumarabhritya department of V.P.S.V Ayurveda college Kottakkal. The study started in 2016 with duration of 2 years is yet to be finished. The project compares the combined effect of music therapy, yoga, lifestyle guidelines and Ayurveda therapy with conventional therapy for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder with scholastic backwardness.

The department is funded by AYUSH for a project entitled “A randomized controlled trial to assess the effect of a gut therapy protocol [koshtachikitsa] for managing dysbiosis in children with autism” under Extra mural projects. . The project has started functioning from October 2018 with head of department as the principal investigator. A senior and a junior research fellow are appointed for the project
